Great Community Give Funds Will Make a BIG Impact for Local Youth
The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County's 8th Annual Great Community Give has concluded with tremendous results! As a community, over $2.2 million was raised for 147 participating nonprofits this year!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County is elated to be a part of such an incredible day of giving each year—and this was our biggest year yet! Thanks to 202 generous donors, BBBSHR raised $143,027, surpassing our goal by 10%!
These funds are essential to our mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. How exactly are we doing this?
- Each volunteer, Little, and their family are professionally supported by receiving regular communications from a Match Support Specialist, who ensures that the match is successful and is experiencing positive growth and development.
- Activity kits are provided monthly to matches to provide free and new experiences for Bigs and Littles to bond over.
- Bigs and Littles are invited to a diverse selection of BBBSHR-facilitated events every month.
- Events are held quarterly for Littles and their families to have fun together, enjoy dinner, and receive helpful resources.
- Each Little receives a birthday surprise, and matches are gifted special treats to celebrate their match anniversary!
- Volunteer Bigs are celebrated several times throughout the year to thank them for the time and care they give to their Little.
These are just a few ways we support one-to-one mentoring matches. It takes time, supplies, and a caring community to help each young person achieve their full potential—and we couldn't do it without you.
Shout out to everyone who helped make the BIG Party at Cuban Burger so successful! Steve, Shami, and the team did an incredible job keeping drinks and food flowing. Thank you to our staff and board for joining us at the event, and special recognition to our celebrity bartenders Brandy, Erin, and Derek. It was the perfect way to celebrate a great day of community giving!

Power Hour – Maximize Your Gift!
We will be participating in the Lunch Break Power Hour from 12:00-1:00 pm with the chance for donors to win prizes from us.
Every 10th donation given during our Power Hour will receive a coupon for either a free 10" 1 topping pizza OR a free bread twist from your locally-owned Domino's!

The Great Community Give is organized by The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, which underwrites platform costs so that 100% of your tax-deductible donation (less a small processing fee) goes directly to BBBSHR.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will be celebrating Great Community Give with our friends at Cuban Burger!
April 2nd-16th: Cuban Burger will donate $1 from every El Vaquero sold to BBBSHR in support of one-to-one mentoring for local youth!
April 16th, 5:00-8:00 pm: Join Big Brothers Big Sisters for the final hours of Great Community Give at Cuban Burger!
Cuban Burger will donate 20% of proceeds during this event to BBBSHR! Come for the BBBS Burger Special (Bacon, Bleu Cheese, & Buffalo Sauce), Raffle Prizes, "Steal the Pint" (min. $10 donation), celebrity bartenders, & much more fun! Entree into this event is FREE!
We will also be set up to collect donations for the Great Community Give. Every gift to BBBSHR helps connect youth on our waiting list and provides ongoing, professional support to current one-to-one mentoring matches. We are BIGGER TOGETHER!
